Service Description

An emotional support animal is an animal companion that offers some type of benefit to an individual with some form of disability. The animal is intended to provide companionship and support that will help alleviate at least one aspect of the disability. Dogs are the most common type of emotional support animal, but cats are quite common as well. An (ESA) animal is any animal or pet that can provide emotional and therapeutic benefit to those suffering with emotional disability, anxiety or psychiatric disability. ESA's do have some public access rights like housing with no pet policies (can't be charged pet deposit), or additional fees. ESA's are protected by Federal Law, the Fair Housing Act . An emotional support dog does not need to wear a special vest. However, some handlers prefer to have one. The ESD vest is a great way to identify your canine as a “working” dog and will help eliminate the confusion and questions you may encounter from the public. This is not to be confused with a service dog vest. You may also choose to allow your Emotional Support Animal to work as a Therapy Dog to help others in stressful environments By law your Emotional Support Dog will not be allowed into restaurants, markets or any place where food is sold or served. Even if the employees want to allow access, they are legally required to turn you away due to health regulations. Only Service Dogs have public access rights to places such as restaurants and markets. Service dogs have specific rights and regulations. There are only two requirements for emotional support dogs. They don’t need as much extensive training as service dogs, but they need to comply with the following: Your emotional support dog must be obedient. Your emotional support dog must be well-behaved in all places, including your home and while inside an airplane cabin. This includes even simple things like ensuring your dog is housebroken. Although not falling as a requirement, your emotional support dog may also benefit from being neutered or spayed as this avoids mating-related aggressive behaviors. *** REQUIREMENTS TO SUBMIT: 1. Name of animal: 2. Breed of animal: 3. Age of animal: 5. Length of animal ownership: 5. How does your animal emotionally support you: (ex. anxiety, depression, sleep, safety) *** Upon approval, ESA certification is valid for 1 year from date of approval.
